Topics: We will study various topics in abstract algebra and their applications to practical problems. These topics will include: groups, group codes, relations, graph theory, Boolean algebras, rings and fields.
 
Grade: There will be two take-home problem sets, each counting 15% of the final grade. There will be a mid-term counting 30% and a final exam counting 40%.
 
Office hours: Monday and Thursday, 10:30 - 12:00; Tuesday, 1:00 - 2:00; and by appointment
